Hi Everyone,
This month Inking Royal Blog Hope is Ocean and/or Sea. Unfortunately, that’s not a stamp set I own. So, I took to making the background look like I’m looking into a sunset! Standing at a railing, with a glass of (something)? looks like a relaxing vacation by the ocean, so just go with it for me. Really easy card and you need to make multiples. Once you have a brush full of color, why not use it, right.
Here’s how I did it.
Get your tools out. You need ink pads or ink refills, water, brush or water paintbrush, and some watercolor paper. You can also use our shimmery white cardstock, which makes everything have just a bit of shine.
Once you have ink on your brush, just paint across the paper. If you want it darker, add more ink. If you want it lighter, just add water (I think there is a store by that name, lol)
Let the paper dry.
- I cut mine down to 4-3/4 x 3-1/2. This is the actual picture with color
- Bermuda Bay is the next layer at 5 x 3-3/4
- Black is the last layer at 4 x 5-1/4
- Base layer in Fresh Freesia . Cut that 4-1/4 x 11, score at 5-1/2 with a side fold
I let the glue dry on the layers and used dimensionals for the final black layer. Next I added a 4 x 5-1/4 piece of basic white and stamped just the birds several times inside to tie it together.
When you stamp on the watercolor paper, I suggest you use a positioner like our Stamparatus! Because the paper is not perfectly smooth like our Basic White Cardstock, you need to stamp several times to get it to fill in the bumps.

Great card Jan. I love your colors. Very creative of you!
Thanks Renae. I wasn’t sure where I was going when I started. Sometimes that just works out!
Your watercoloring is superb. The card is so gorgeous and the uncolored stamped image is so perfect with the watercoloring.
Sue, I’m so thankful to you. Watercoloring is not my forte, but I want to venture into it some more. It was fun!
For starters – I LOVE this mix of aqua blue and purple. It’s a classic beauty that feels so modern (at the same time). Such a great card, Jan!
Thanks Brian. I was just thinking of the water and sky at sunset. It worked out, lol.
So beautiful and peaceful. I think we all want to be this girl!
Thanks Pam, I just was that girl, but I want to be again, lol
Great colors for an ethereal scene. Lovely!
Thanks Candy. I guess I got lucky with my first dip into watercolors lol
Thanks for sharing how you made your terrific background! Love, love, love it!!
You are welcome. I’m not much for watercoloring, but this was pretty easy. I will have to dip my toe more often. Thanks!
This is a really cute card! You definitely have her looking out over a beautiful waterfront property. I’d love to be there!
Maybe because I was there for spring break, lol. Thanks for looking and your comment!
Such a cute idea! Your colors are great and I can see just sitting on a balcony overlooking the ocean. Love it!
Thanks Jackie. You are so good at this sort of thing. I appreciate your vision!
