Hi All,

My next three weeks of cards are going to be super simple and quick.  Today I’m using the Snowflake DSP which is only available while supplies last thru the end of December.  It has some flocked snowflakes that I used here, some flocked “snow” and some shimmery flakes are also part of the DSP.  All can be used to make these cards for winter fun and celebrations.  I will say that the embossed shiny snowflakes didn’t take ink well.  It beaded up and wouldn’t dry, so I’d use a sentiment strip or no stamping at all.  I also used another retiring item Wonderful Snowflakes.

Because I wanted to highlight the beautiful flocked DSP, I make it a 5 x 7 card.  You can buy inexpensive envelopes at the box store or you can make one out of heavy weight regular paper.  I buy 32 lb bright white paper and use it for making stationary, which we’ll explore in the beginning of the year, and for making other paper crafting, when cardstock is too much.  Instructions for making the envelope are also below.

Cutting Instructions:

For base of card – Makes one

  • Cut 8 1/2 x 11 paper along the 11 inch side at 7
  • Rotate and cut at 10 inches.  Score at 5.  Fold and Burnish

For DSP cutting correctly is important to get 3 card fronts out of it

  • Cut at 5 inches.  If your paper is directional, the 5 inches should be at the bottom piece of the cardstock.
  • Rotate and cut the 7 inch piece along the 12 inch side at 5 two times.  There is a 2 inch strip left over
  • For the remaining 5 inch piece – If dimensional, your card will need to be a top fold so the landscape is correct.  Cut at 7 inches.

Cut 5 inches off one side.

Rotate and cut at 5 inches twice.

On left over piece cut at 7 inches.  If directional, make a landscape card with a top fold

This is what it ends up looking like.  Apologies for the sunlight, lol/

Now the Envelope:

I have attached a PDF, but the brief explanation is that you score on a full 8 1/2 x 11 sheet of paper and score as noted on the PDF.  Add Tear and Tape and you have an envelope.  You can make all sizes by following the diagram and changing the numbers.

I hope you enjoyed this tutorial.  Let me know what you want to see in the new year.  I’m planning and have some fun ideas.
